15 centesimi 1st type - plates -

The 15 centesimi stamp of the first issue exists in three main sub-types: for their identification I invite you to go to this stamp specific card. The first type was printed using two quite different plates: I will call these plates "A" and "B" to avoid confusions. I represent here below two samples, the first printed with the "A" plate (Fig. 1) and the second printed with the "B" plate (Fig. 2-3). This second plate"B" was used at the same time to print also the 15 centesimi of the second type and therefore on the plate "B" we can find together both samples of the 15c. 1st type and of 2nd type. The couple of different stamps are nor common neither great rarities (Fig. 4).

The difference between the two plates is very evident: in the first one the stamps looks "clean" with an engraving very thin and detailed: each piece detail is visible in a very precise way. The color tends towards red/carmine red. In the second one the details are very foggy, especially in the central coat of arms and tend to become not so identifiable: the color is clearly more on the red vermilion shade. Here below is shown a plate "B" sample that is down to a very deep wear: the stamp details are, at this point of consumption, completely undistinguishable (Fig. 3).
