Some varieties.....
To describe in detail some of the main varieties of the Neapolitan Provinces means practically to repeat step by step what has been said about the Sardinia stamps and their implementation; we saw in fact as these pieces have been made again by Matraire, again in Turin and with the two systems; the stamps themselves are also very similar in several details.
I decided therefore that it was not so useful to repeat what I said about double effigies or printing waste etc..
So, I put together in this "Going deep" some varieties typical of this issue relying on the Sardinia "Going deep" for the technical notes.
It is therefore a page somehow particular with some picture and few explanations.
For the people looking for more details please see the Sardinia and Lombardy-Venetia "Going deep" notes (Lombardy-Venetia for the offsets and frame faults).
Here are some interesting pieces (Fig 1 to 8).
Fig. 1: an occasional plate fault... Fig. 2: a very evident offset
Fig. 3: pair with the left sample without effigy:
that was happening when the double matrix stamping system
was skipping a step for technical problems or more likely for human error.
Fig. 4: evident mark, on the bottom border,
of the thin layer separating the stamps (typographic space)
Fig. 5: double effigy with large shift Fig. 6: rare triple effigy
Fig. 7: trial or stamping houses wastes,
without gum and without effigy Fig. 8: trial or stamping house's waste
without effigy and with gum on the front!
